Mountain Lion-Kojo | Paper
Let This Painting's Story â Touch Your Own!
âïž From My Personal Journal
Â
Thereâs a moment in the wild when everything goes silentânot out of fear, but out of respect.
Thatâs what I felt when I painted him.
He isnât charging. He isnât roaring. Heâs simply walking forward⊠seen. Thereâs no noise in his power. Only presence. A kind of steady, grounded knowing that doesnât need to prove itself.
The name came laterâKojoâa word with roots in the Akan tradition, tied to peace and Monday-born stillness. That contrast struck me deeply: a lion named for calm. For nurture. For quiet.
And yet, the more I painted, the more it made sense.
Look at his posture. Centered. Balanced. Every step deliberate. He walks through water as though itâs an extension of himselfâunbothered by the ripples, unaffected by what stirs around him. Thereâs grace in that. A kind of discipline only found in the wildâwhere survival demands presence over panic.
His eyes became the soul of the piece. Focused. Aware. Watching not just outward, but inward. That was the hardest partâgetting that expression just right. One of protection, not threat. Of clarity, not control.
The background faded naturally into darkness. I didnât want distractions. Just light falling where it mattered mostâon his fur, the shimmer of the shallow water, the tension between motion and stillness.
Heâs not hunting. Heâs guarding.
A boundary. A memory. Maybe even you.
I painted him as a reminder that strength doesnât always roar. Sometimes it walks in softly. Sometimes it shows up on a Monday, with no need to raise its voiceâjust a presence that says, âIâm here.â
Thatâs Kojo.
Maybe youâve met him beforeâin yourself, or in someone who showed up just when you needed it. Calm in crisis. Steady in chaos.
Power⊠with peace at the center.
